Technical reference guide tackles vehicle safety at mines

The Resources Regulator has released a technical reference guide to help reduce instances of adverse vehicle interactions at mine sites.

The technical reference guide – Roads or other vehicle operating areas principal hazard management plan for surface mining operations has been developed following extensive consultation with the mining industry, through the Adverse Vehicle Interactions Advisory Committee to assist mine operators to comply with their legislative requirements to avoid adverse vehicle interactions.

There have been 783 reported incidents and near misses relating to adverse vehicle interactions at mine sites reported in NSW since during the past 5 years.

Mine operators are required to eliminate risks to workers or when risks cannot be eliminated ensure they are controlled as low as is reasonably practicable.
