Report an incident or injury
If there is a serious injury or illness, a death or a dangerous incident, you must report it to us immediately by calling 1300 814 609 option 1 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). You will then need to log in to the Regulator Portal to access the incident lodged by the Resources Regulator and provide further information as required.
The primary focus of the Regulator is to regulate compliance with work health and safety legislation and the Mining Act, including mine rehabilitation obligations, on NSW mine and petroleum sites. This includes open-cut and underground mines, petroleum sites, quarries and extractive operations, tourist mines, opal and other small scale mines, and mining exploration activities.
Incident prevention strategy
The Resources Regulator has implemented the Incident prevention strategy (PDF, 1.17 MB) in consultation with the Mine Safety Advisory Council and external industry stakeholders.
The strategy is underpinned by three key foundations:
- developing a risk-based intervention framework
- integrating human and organisational factors on risk management and reporting
- collecting and using robust and quality data to support the risk-based intervention framework.
The implementation of a scheduled safety assessment program for mines and petroleum sites is a crucial element in mine safety's implementation of the incident prevention strategy. Read more about the safety assessment program.
The Regulator continues to review the effectiveness of their compliance and enforcement activities to ensure they meet the objectives of the incident prevention strategy.
