The Resources Regulator has released a safety video recreating an electrical arc flash incident that occurred in June 2025.
The incident happened while two electricians were undertaking fault-finding activities on a distribution board at the surface operations of an underground mine.
During the fault-finding task, a racking bar was used as a levering device. The bar subsequently came into contact with a live phase conductor and the earthed enclosure, resulting in an electrical fault and arc flash.
Arc flash incidents can release extreme levels of heat, pressure, and energy in a fraction of a second, which can cause serious injury or fatality.
In addition to recreating the incident, the safety animation details recommendations and responsibilities.
