The Resources Regulator is holding a free Opal Mining Safety Workshop for new opal mine holders and operators and those needing to renew their certification in the White Cliffs Mineral Claims District.

Section 8 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 sets out safety training requirements that must be undertaken by opal mine holders and operators every 5 years.

The will course will cover the knowledge and skills required to be a mine operator, including:

  • Safety policy
  • Hazard identification
  • Maintenance
  • Risk management
  • People management
  • Emergency response plans

On the day, you will receive:

  • Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
  • A copy of the Opal and gemstone mining guide

The following documentation will be posted to attendees after the course:

  • Certificate of completion (valid for 5 years)
  • Generic Mine Safety Management Plan (MSMP) template that you can tailor to suit your operation
  • MSMP supplementary documents
  • Logbook
  • Additional reference material and templates
