Have your say: Operational rehabilitation reform

We are seeking feedback on the Mining Amendment (Standard Conditions of Mining Leases - Rehabilitation) Regulation 2020 and associated mandatory requirements that will give effect to operational rehabilitation reforms.

The proposed amendment regulation will prescribe mining lease conditions relating to rehabilitation by amending the regulation under the Mining Act 1992 to improve clarity and enforceability of rehabilitation outcomes. The new standard mining lease conditions will apply to all mining leases and will support best practice mine site rehabilitation and help ensure NSW has a sustainable minerals industry.

The new conditions will require lease holders to develop a rehabilitation management plan to identify and achieve rehabilitation outcomes, undertake rehabilitation risk assessments, develop a forward program to demonstrate the approach to progressive rehabilitation and report annually on performance.

Your feedback is important to guide and develop our regulatory approach to deliver improved outcomes to the New South Wales community. Details about how to have your say are available on our consultation page.

Submissions close 6 November 2020.
