Work health and safety reports can now be submitted online

Work health and safety reports for the period 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020 are now available on the Resources Regulator Portal for mine operators to complete.

Please note: Quarter 4 reports for the 2019-20 reporting period have been replaced by an annual work health and safety report.

From June 2020, mine operators of the following classes of mines will be exempt from having to submit a work health and safety report to the Resources Regulator:

  • non-coal mines (metalliferous and extractives mines) where the total number of hours (including additional shifts and overtime) worked at each mine by workers (employees or contractors) is less than 10,000 hours during the 12-month financial year reporting period. Mine operators will be notified by email that they need to log into the Regulator Portal and declare they meet the exemption criteria for that mine. For operators of multiple mines, the exemption only applies at an individual mine when the total number of hours worked at that mine is less than 10,000 hours during the reporting period.
  • exploration sites where ‘exploring for minerals’ (including exploration for coal) is the only mining operation carried out during the reporting period. If the mine is classed as ‘exploration only’, a work health and safety report will not be generated in the Regulator Portal and operators do not need to take any further action.

Exemptions continue for operators of petroleum sites, underground small gemstone mines, opal mines and tourist mines. A work health and safety report will not be generated in the Regulator Portal and operators do not need to take any action.

Please refer to the NSW Resources Regulator website, fact sheet and guide (PDF, 77.92 KB) for information on how to submit an annual work health and safety report.
