Small Mines Roadshow 2025

This year’s roadshows provide information on health, safety and other topics, such as learning from recent incidents, the regulators enforcement model, change management, health control plans, testing your emergency plan, implementing good blast management practices and the safe management and use of working at height equipment and more.

These free, full-day workshops provide valuable information and resources to the small mines' sector that will assist you to maintain safe mining practices and also provide an opportunity for face-to-face engagement with the Regulator.

For any holders of a Quarry Managers Practicing Certificate the presentation hours will credit towards your maintenance of competence requirements.

8:00am – 8:30am | Registration


9:00am – 10:30am | Session 1 

  • Opening address
  • Introduction video – Chief Inspector of Mines
  • The Regulator’s compliance and enforcement model – “What does reasonably practicable mean” and “how is it achieved” 
  • Working at heights – machine selection and use
  • Using your Explosives Control Plan, Blast Management Plan and Australian Standard 2187’ to conduct safe blasting
  • Case study – The journey of dust management – “it can be done”

10:30am – 11:00am | Morning tea


11:00am – 12:30pm | Session 2 

  • Workshop 1 – Change management – “what does it look like”? 
  • Quick Topics: 

    1. Hi Vis campaign overview and learnings
    2. New Fit Testing requirements – dealing with facial hair
    3. Pit inspections – “What does a good system include”?
    4. Health Control Plan – ensuring your workers and contractors are ‘fit for duty’ 
    5. Tier 3 Quarry Update - (optional depends on location)
