NSW Resources is inviting comments on proposed reforms to the plant registration and activity licencing conditions under the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 (the Regulation).
The proposed reforms will replace requirements in the current Regulation with the Australian and international standards and national accreditation schemes for plant used in mining, as well as specific performance standards.
The changes will:
-
align NSW requirements with the Australian standards
-
reflect technological advances which have improved health and safety across the industry
-
better align with the risk-based framework ensuring that duty holders assess hazards and put in place controls that meet modern standards
-
remove ambiguity in the current legislation around plant, clarify requirements and remove administrative burden where appropriate
-
remove the requirement to register some items of plant
-
remove design registration requirements in relation to explosives, which in NSW are regulated by SafeWork NSW.
Read the discussion paper and submit your comments.
