The potential in NSW for geothermal energy, a clean and sustainable source of power, is unveiled in new modelling undertaken by the Geological Survey of NSW.
The NSW Geothermal Project incorporated new seismic data, 3D modelling, and well and petrophysical data into a new methodology for predicting heat flow and crustal temperatures to provide up to date information for geothermal potential across NSW. The results show the three most prospective areas for geothermal energy are the Murray-Darling, Sydney-Gunnedah-Bowen and Clarence-Moreton basins.
