Market Interest Test – Coal Operational Allocation ELA 7005

Public submissions close on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at 11:59pm (AEST).

Wilpinjong Coal Pty Ltd. (ACN 104 594 694) has applied to NSW Resources for a Group 9 (coal) exploration licence for operational allocation purposes in accordance with section 13C of the Mining Act 1992

 Exploration Licence Application No. 7005 (Act 1992) (ELA 7005) is located about 42 kilometres northeast of Mudgee, for an area of approximately 412.6 hectares. ELA 7005 embraces the surface and soil below thereof to a depth of 900 metres below Australian Height Datum (AHD). 

NSW Resources is required to assess any market interest for the application by Wilpinjong Coal Pty Ltd. – ELA 7005 and is seeking submissions from parties interested in exploring and potentially developing coal resources within the application area.

Any valid submissions made may trigger a competitive process for the release of the area. Submissions should only be made where a party has a genuine interest in making an application for an exploration licence and where interested parties are willing to participate in a competitive process if it is triggered.

If you would like information on the geology and/or publicly available coal exploration data in the area, contact the Geological Survey of NSW - Resource Assessments team on (02) 4063 6658 or mra.info@dpird.nsw.gov.au.

If you would like to express interest, please provide details of: 

  • Why you are expressing an interest in the area;
  • An overview of how it may form part of an extension to an existing mine or a potential new mine (including for example an overarching conceptual mine plan); and
  • Your experience in coal mining and exploration and/or developing a mining operation, including with reference to your financial and technical capability.

Submissions may be made by email to titles@dpird.nsw.gov.au and quote “Market Interest Test for ELA 7005” in the subject line by the closing date. 

This notification is made under section 13C(3A)(b) of the Mining Act 1992 and the Guideline for coal exploration licence applications for operational allocation purposes, and does not constitute an invitation for a coal exploration licence or mining lease nor a release of the area under the Strategic Release Framework.
