Australian Mining Prospect Awards
Lindsay Gilligan, the Director of the Geological Survey of NSW (GSNSW) and Malachite Resources NL won prestigious national public awards at the 5th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards held in Sydney, October 2008.
Lindsay Gilligan (please refer to the top-right image) received the 'Most Outstanding Contribution to Mining' award for his leadership role in programs developed by GSNSW teams to stimulate mineral exploration and investment in NSW. These programs, funded by NSW Department of Primary Industries and its New Frontiers exploration initiative, are responsible for increased exploration activity in the state's south west and remote north west.
Malachite Resources NL, a NSW mining company, was awarded the 'Explorer of the Year Award' for its achievements with its wholly owned Conrad Silver Mine Project near Inverell, northern NSW. Malachite's directors, Russell Meares and Garry Lowder, have long standing ties with the Geological Survey of NSW. Russell Meares is an industry representative on the Geological Survey Advisory Committee and Garry Lowder is a former Director-General of the then Department of Mineral Resources.
The Australian Mining Prospect Awards aim to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the Australian mining industry. Nominations are sourced from the mineral exploration and mining industry and finalists are chosen by a panel of judges with expertise in the Australian mining industry using specific criteria based on demonstrated innovation and excellence in outcome.
